Special Guest Talk: Nature and Us

  • 60 Halifax Street Adelaide, South Australia, 5000 Australia (map)

How do you feel when you spend time with your hands in dirt? Or looking up at a tree. Everyone knows that being in and around the green of nature is good for you, but few of us know how good, how deep this goes, or how interconnected we are. When we look after nature, it looks after us. We don’t just go out into nature: we are part of nature.

Renowned educator David Butler teaches the neuro-immuno-biology of nature and its effect on us. He explores the nature prescription for brain, body and environmental constructions such as fatigue, pain, dementia, anxiety, depression, and even love. His talk will show us ways to seek a deeper and more effective relationship with nature: for your health and for the planet’s health.

Did you know?:

  • Just five minutes of touching mulch or walking barefoot gives you friendly bacteria with powerful effects: reduction of stress, immunoregulation, and that joyous serotonin production.

  • Just one plant in your lateral vision reduces stress and diastolic blood pressure, and improves focus.

  • The terminal of a root has more receptors than terminal of a neurone, and a plant has its own version of the senses: they can smell, taste, touch and hear.

Let’s dig into this fascinating subject. Come explore the anthropocentric-to-ecocentric spectrum. Learn how we can all benefit from connecting to land.

With inspiring speaker David Butler leading us through, you’ll reflect, laugh, imagine, maybe cry, and be surprised.

All welcome.
